Messenger bag

Namiko loves to investigate things that I leave on top of my bed. Many nights after work I would leave my laptop bag on bed and run off to prepare dinner, only to come back and find Namiko sniffing around my bag.

With a paw firmly in place, Namiko claims my bag as her own:

A guilty look on her face, she must be contemplating a naughty move.
bag2.jpg

"What's inside this bag," she wonders.

Another perfect hiding place, ostrich effect included.

Silent and still, Namiko peeks out from the side.

I wouldn't mind carrying her, instead of my laptop, in my bag.

Human watching

Namiko has an amusing habit of watching us while we're on the sofa watching TV. I'm not sure what goes on in her mind as she watches us silently, but I feel a bit unnerved at times with a pair of cat eyes staring at me from the sidelines as my attention is on the TV.

Here she is one night, eyes locked on us while we enjoy a movie.

Once in a while, something on the screen would catch her attention.

But very soon, her eyes would dart back to us for another session of silent human gazing.

I do a lot of staring at her too, so maybe she's returning the favor!

Toe cleaning

Happy Lunar New Year to everyone! No firecrackers here and Namiko prefers it that way. In the tradition of cleaning out the old, bad spirits from the past year to welcome the new year, Namiko carefully cleanses her toes so good luck and fortune will come her way in 2009.

A little help from her human caretaker is always welcomed.

No lucky red envelop for dear Namiko, but I will surprise her with a new sparkling feather toy and Pawbreaker tonight, woo!

Slipper enjoyment

One strange habit Namiko has developed as a teenage kitten is to stick her front legs into household slippers. I have no idea why she would do this. Maybe she thinks something is hiding inside?? No slipper is immune to her paw stuffing but she does tend to prefer the blue Brookstone ones.

Namiko enjoying the tempur-pedic material of the slipper:

"Is there a problem?", her expression conveys.
slipper3.jpg

Yikes, her waistline looking a little chunky from above.

Stuffing is okay, but please, no scratching the insides of the slippers, dear Namiko!

Box full of fun

Cats and boxes are a fun mix. Namiko loves to investigate new boxes that come into the house, especially if it has tissue paper inside.

A perfect diagonal fit for a lazy cat!

"Ooh, I forgot about the wand," her intent gaze conveys.

Box + tissue + wand = way too much fun for this Scottish Fold!

Thirsty drink

The weather has been extremely dry because of the Santa Ana winds blowing across the land. I try to make Namiko drink as much water as possible at every opportunity. Even when she is relaxing on the carpet, I move her water bowl in front of her to coax Namiko to drink more. Sometimes it works and sometimes she protests the move by getting up and moving away.

In this instance, the attempt was successful. Namiko drinks heartily from her green water bowl.

Never the type to be subtle, Namiko pushes the bowl away from her after she is done:

I actually had a video of her drinking from it but baka me accidentally deleted it.

Vampire hours

Namiko is becoming more and more nocturnal as the months go by. Her bed time is early in the morning when I get up for work, and she doesn't wake up until I come home in the evening. I wonder what could she be doing during those late twilight hours when everyone is asleep... Something naughty no doubt!

Namiko sleeps away the day as the sun rises high in the sky

And her most favored flat-on-her-back-tummy-exposed sleeping pose

I couldn't help but take a video, hehe.

She always makes it so hard to leave for work in the morning!

Vet aftermath

Namiko's visit to the Vet went slightly better than expected. She was really scared during the trip as usual, but her vaccination shot went smoothly and her physical checkup showed everything was normal.

Namiko was immediately relieved once we were back at home. Her toy from the Vet this time is an orange fuzzy ball.

A new ball with a new smell deserves an extra sniff.

Funny tasting says the tongue...
fuzz3.jpg

Ah, time to relax until the next Vet checkup next year... yay!

Our goal is to collect all colors available for the fuzzy balls, haha.

carrier top

How I hate the Santa Ana winds! The air becomes so dry and uncomfortable. Even poor Namiko seems to be scratching herself more these days (any cat skin lotion out there??). Every time I pet her, static electricity builds up and I end up shocking her with a tiny electric jolt. Namiko was none too happy.

The weather being a bit warmer than usual, Namiko decides to relax on top of the carrier instead of in it:

Ah, an instant cat hammock!

"Please no more electric shock", her eyes implore.
carrier top 3

Hai hai, I will refrain from petting too much during these dry conditions.

Fallen purr grab

The weekend is almost upon us. Namiko will have a surprise trip to the Vet tomorrow for her one year booster vaccination. My stress level is already rising just thinking about the battle in the morning to get her into the carrier and subsequent unpleasant car trip and Vet visit. Argh, if only I can afford a home Vet that comes to your house instead!

Namiko relaxing happily, oblivious to the events of tomorrow. A purring surprise grab at the end of the video!

Naughty Namiko, hehe.

Under the chair

There is a rotation of sorts in regards to where Namiko decides to take her naps. These days the space underneath the wicker chair in my room seems to be the flavor of the moment.

We sneaked in Namiko's old baby bed one day (the one she abandoned many months ago) and she actually slept in it!

Sleepy snoozy dreams of wicker and cotton puffs

Squinty eye pirate style, no less!

Makes me want to doze off as well...

Up and up

Namiko had another nice lazy weekend of naps, spider hunting, and gluttony. Just when one thinks her daily routine is predictable, she surprises us again with her signature Scottish Fold cat stand.

Still a bit wobbly at times, Namiko stands up with resolve.
stand3.jpg

"Now where is that bonito treat that my stance greatly deserves," her turning head inquires as she scans around for her reward.
stand4.jpg

Of course, we had to oblige.

Sleepy sleep

Namiko welcomes 2009 with a wonderfully luxurious nap. Yes, while everyone around her was counting down to the new year, she decides to take a snooze instead.

Wake up, Namiko, it's 2009!!!

Ehh... okay, sleepy kitty, you win.
